In 1960, the consolidation of rural schools brought another change. Knickerbocker students began traveling by bus to attend school in nearby Christoval, ending more than eight decades of local schooling in the community.
The historic red brick school building, however, remained an important part of Knickerbocker. In 1989, it began a new chapter as the community’s post office and community center—a gathering place that continues to connect Knickerbocker’s past with the community of today.
